Currently, only the states of California, Oregon, New Jersey, Illinois, and Vermont outlaw the practice of conversion therapy. In conversion therapy, LGBT+ people encouraged to "cure" their sexualities or gender identities, often by extremely harmful means. After conversion therapy, subjects often have heightened risks of depression and suicide. This is also a practice that produces results infrequently, making for a scarring process to no avail.

As a state that has headed LGBT+ rights, most notably in the race for marriage equality, it is Washington's role to take charge and ban this damaging process. LGBT+ people cannot feel safe in this state until this practice is fully out of the question, and legislature is needed to ensure this safety.
